The final third party presentation of E3 2017 belongs to Ubisoft and the company absolutely knocked it out of the park with several massive game announcements. upgrades and announcements. A lot of crazy, fan-favorite announcements were made so check out our preview to make sure you don’t miss any of the news from Ubi’s press event.
Things kicked off with a surprise appearance from Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto to show off a game that actually leaked a few weeks ago – Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. The game marries the worlds of Mario and Rabbids into a hilarious tactical RPG and promises to offer a new take on the Mario universe. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on August 29th.
We also got a fresh look at Assassin’s Creed: Origins gameplay and how much about how the conventions of the series are being turned on its head. We also got a high-octane trailer for The Crew 2 which features four types of gameplay; street racing, off-roading, plane racing and speed boating. The Crew 2 will be released in early 2018 for the PS4, XBO and PC.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole also got a brand new trailer that showed off some of the game’s story elements. Not much else was presented but we did get a concrete released date with the game launching on October 17th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A new IP for VR platforms was also briefly explained. Not much is known yet but Transference will focus on the mind and the transfer of memories and be released in Spring 2018.
Prior to Ubisoft’s E3 press conference they mentioned that we would be seeing a new IP from the publisher and we got to see what they meant with the reveal of the pirate themed Skull & Bones. This game will feature single and multiplayer ship combat and is being developed by the team behind the naval combat in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Skull & Bones will be released for the PS4, XBO and PC in fall of 2018.
A couple of smaller announcements followed. We got to see some gameplay of Just Dance 2018 and found out that the game is coming to both current gen (PS4, XBO, Switch, PC) and last gen (PS3, X360, Wii, Wii U) platforms. We also got a new South Park game coming to iOS and Android devices in 2017. South Park: Phone Destroyer will be a card battle RPG with fourth wall breaking moments. The last bit of this section was dedicated to a new IP called Starlink: Battle for Atlas, a multiplatform game that takes advantage of toys to life technology to let players customize their space fighters. Starlink: Battle for Atlas is coming to PS4, XBO and Switch in 2018. Steep is also getting an expansion based on the Olympic games released in on December 5th.
The presentation closed with two big showcased for Ubisoft. We got a new gameplay trailer for Far Cry 5 that shows off some of the tactical gameplay as well as the co-op mode for the campaign. However Ubisoft saved the best for last, revealing the long awaited sequel to Beyond Good and Evil. Beyond Good and Evil 2 takes places before Jade’s birth and follows a motley crew on a quest across the stars. No other details were given on the game at the time.
