Ladies and gentlemen, what a year it has been. From new hardware launches, exciting announcements, crushing delays, surprise game releases and everything in between it seemed like 2017 has it all. But now, in the final moments of the year its time to turn our attention to what comes next, to the biggest games that will keep us entertained in 2018 (and likely beyond). So, like we did last year, the LC staff got together one more time to decide what our Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2018 would be. Just remember, we only considered games that were officially announced for 2018, so while we can’t wait for Death Stranding or Metroid Prime 4, neither is 100% certain to release in 2018 so they were left off the list.

10 – Sea of Thieves

Its been so long since we have been honestly excited for a new game from Rare but 2018’s Sea of Thieves has changed all of that. Finally a game that lets us live out our long-simmering fantasies of heading out and living the good ‘ol pirate life filled with rum drinking, treasure plundering, ship battles, pet parrots and all manner of yo-ho-hoing. Everything we’ve seen so far from this game has gotten us excited for Rare’s return to form.

9 – Darksiders III

When THQ went silent a few years ago we had resigned ourselves to the fact that would likely never get another game in the Darksiders series. Well like a bat out pf hell, the newly minted THQ Nordic has come roaring back and with is a brand new installment in the series, this time featuring Fury and her quest to destroy the Seven Deadly Sins. We don’t know exactly when Darksiders III will be released but we’re already getting our countdown timers ready for this one.

8 – Travis Strike Again: No More Heroes

Another series we thought we would never hear from again, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes brings the ultra-violent assassin to the Nintendo Switch in a brand new adventure that looks to borrow elements from popular Indie games like Hotline Miami 2 in order to flesh out its world and narrative. While details are still vague on this one we know that director Suda 51 is extremely excited to be finally revisiting the world of No More Heroes and we can’t wait to see what this one is all about.

7 – Dragon Ball: FighterZ

You wont have to wait too long for the next game on our list as Dragon Ball: FighterZ is releasing on January 26th, giving us one of the first major titles of 2018 not even four weeks into the year. With gorgeous, stylized visuals that look to perfectly capture the look of the anime, the game is shaping up to be the best fighting game the series has delivered so far (and there’s a lot of those).

6 – Fire Emblem for Nintendo Switch (Working Title)

Fire Emblem has quickly become one of Nintendo’s most important franchises with three major releases in 2017 across all of Nintendo’s platforms and for 2018 Nintendo aims to keep the tactical ball rolling with the yet untitled Fire Emblem for Nintendo Switch. We literally know nothing about this game other than the fact its a Switch game and is part of the Fire Emblem franchise but that’s enough to get us pumped for what this newest game in the series is all about.

5 – Monster Hunter: World

Another game releasing in January (what a month!) Capcom’s newest take on the long running Monster Hunter series looks to not only be a gorgeous adventure but a fundamental change to that a series that, while always good, had started to feel a bit stale. With bigger environments, more hunting options and of course brand-new monsters to hunt you can be sure that we will be playing this one for hours on end when it releases on January 26th… wait when will we have time to play Dragon Ball: FighterZ?! : S

4 – God of War (2018)

Kratos is back and his PlayStation 4 debut completely reinvents what it means to be a ‘God of War’ game. With more of a focus on the narrative and the world itself the game looks to take a less hectic stance on its combat mechanics while keeping each encounter as brutal as fans of the series have come to expect. The PlayStation 4 is already shaping up to have a very strong year in 2018 and God of War (2018) is at the forefront, leading the charge.

3 – Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

The long wait is nearly over. Kogi Igarashi’s first, post-Konami project and love letter to the Castelvania series will finally be released in 2018 and we can’t wait to get our hands on this one. Looking to build upon all the elements that made games like Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow so memorable while adding in new elements unique to itself. If Konami doesn’t want to give us a new game in the Belmont story then hopefully this title fills in that gap.

2 – Project Octopath Traveler (Working Title)

We love RPG’s here at Link-Cable and of all the role-playing games announced for 2018 none have us more excited than the Nintendo Switch exclusive, Octopath Traveler. Right off the bat the game will get a lot of attention for its sharp visual presentation (coined 2DHD by the developers) but from what we’ve seen from the gameplay this will be a very deep adventure, with lots of mechanics to master and stories to sift through.

1 – Red Dead Redemption II

The only game to make the jump from our 2017 list of most anticipated games to the 2018 one, we are chomping at the bit to finally get to play Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption II. Everything you could possibly want in a major release is here from the gorgeous visuals and vistas, to the deep story and lore and the world class gameplay, its all here and we are confident this game will be a serious contender for next year’s Game of the Year awards, but for now we just can’t wait to get our hands on it and experience the wild west all over again.

What are your most anticipated games of 2018? We want to know so let us know in the comment section below and, from everybody here at Link-Cable have a happy and safe New Year’s!
